General Information


1. Invitation

The invitation to attend the Ozone Symposium is addressed to specialists in all kind of Ozone, to scientists, physicists, chemists, medical doctors, Universities, Research Institutes, Chemical Industries, Environmental Agencies, the relevant press etc.

2. Date and place

The Ozone Symposium will be held on Thursday, 21st October and Friday, 22 October 1999 in the Auditorium of Novartis, Basel (see pages maps)
Please use the official and signed "GATE 30".

3. Opening of Ozone Symposium

The Ozone Symposium will officially be opened by an Opening Ceremony on Thursday, 21st October 1999, at 08.45 hrs.

4. Technical-Scientific Lectures

5. Poster Session:

Call for Contribution Recent results of ozone research can be presented in the poster Session. Contributions to all aspects of ozone (water treatment process, ozone production, ozone health aspects, ozone in the troposphere or stratosphere, results of chemical reactions kinetics, etc.) are highly welcome.
The Poster Session is devoted to the discussion and the presentation of the posters. We recommend to show the posters during the entire time of the symposium in order to make best use of the unique opportunity of discussions of ozone scientists across the borders of the disciplines. The poster presentation allows young collegues to present their results to well known ozone scientists.
The contributions of the poster will be published in the proceedings of the Conference requiring an abstract of one to three pages. The number of participants is limited.

The Historical Museum Basel is the most important museum of culturel history in the Upper Rhine region and one of the leading museums of its kind in Switzerland.
This late Gothic church, named after the barefoot Franciscan friars to whom it once belonged, was a candidate in the contest to house the Swiss National Museum before inaugurated as the Historical Museum Basel in 1894.

Visit of the Jean Tinguely Museum

Departure: 14.00 hrs
Return: 16.30 hrs
Costs: SFr. 25.- per person

The Museum Jean Tinguely is devoted to the life and work of this major sculptor in iron. The exhibition shows works from the artist's beginnings in the fifties - with motordriven reliefs, drawing machines and the scrap assemblages of the sixties - through the black-painted machine sculptures, to the large sculptures and pandemonic cycles of his last creative period.

Stroll through the old part of the City of Basel

A stroll through the picturesque Old Town of Basel with its lovely old buildings and various monuments of Art

Excursion to Elsass /Colmar

Departure: 09.00 hrs
Return: 17.00 hrs
Costs: SFr. 150.- per person

You will pass the most beautiful villages from the Elsass (France) while driving on the "wine-road" to Eguisheim. Enjoy a special wine-tasting in one of the cellars of Eguisheim. Lunch and stroll through the old part of Colmar and guided tour at the "Unterlinden Museum". Afterwards visit of the old castle "Kaysersberg" and sightseeing, coffee and shopping in "Riquewihr".

9. Registration

9.1 Registration Fee

The registration fee for delegates will be:

IOA Members SFr. 250.-
Non Members SFr. 350.-
Participants from Universities SFr. 120.-
Students (enrolled at a University) SFr. 50.-
Day Ticket SFr. 190.-
Accompanying Persons SFr. 100.-

9.2 Registration Fee entitles

Exception: The registration fee for accompanying persons includes to attend the Opening Ceremony, Lunches on Thursday and Friday, participation at the Evening Reception on Thursday and free entrance to the Christian F. Schönbein and Ozone Exhibition.

9.3 Application and Remittance

Please complete and mail the Registration Form with remittance as soon as possible, before September 30, 1999 at the latest.
Payment should be made by Bank draft, credit card or by Bank cheque. Further details can be found on the Registration Form.

9.4 Cancellation and Refunds

Provided the notification of cancellation is received by October 1st, 1999, fees paid will be refunded less a deduction of 50 %.
No registration fee will be refunded after October 15, 1999, but the Symposiums proceedings will be forwarded free of charge to all persons thus forfeiting their registration fee.

10. Symposium Secretariat and Registration

The Symposium Secretariat and Registration is located on the Auditorium of Novartis, Basel. Registration is effected here and Conference Documentation can be obtained.

11. Luncheon and Coffee break

Luncheon and Coffee on both day are included in the Symposium Fee. For owners of day-tickets, luncheon is included for the day the ticket is valid.
Coffee will be served to delegates during the session breaks. Luncheon will be served in the Restaurant of Novartis (2 minutes walk).

12. Parking in Basel

There are no public parking spaces in the vicinity of the Novartis-Auditorium. The organizers, therefore, recommend the use of public transport facilities.

13. Public Transport Facilities in Basel

Basel - the city of art and culture - is also known for the efficiency of its public transport. It's the best way to get virtually anywhere in town - quickly and easily.
The Novartis-Auditorium is connected by Tram Nr 11 (Stop "Hüningerstrasse") and Nr 1 (Stop "Voltaplatz").
As a guest of each Hotel in Basel you will receive as a complimentary service the "Mobility-Ticket", valid for the duration of your stay.

14. Hotels

Delegates are responsible for their own hotel bookings. A number of rooms have been reserved in various hotels.

After 9 September 1999 requests will be accepted, but hotel accommodation cannot be guaranteed. You will get a confirmation of your reservation. Hotels subject to change. Payment should be made directly at the hotel before departure.

In the event of cancellation, the arised costs will be charged, in case that the reservation is not cancelled 48 hours before the arrival date. In the event of a short-term cancellation or of fallure to turn up, you will be charged the equivalent of one overnight stay.

15. Official Carrier

Fly Crossair who has been appointed Official Carrier for the „200th Anniversary of Christian Friedrich Schönbein" in Basel, make the most of the excellent inflight service, and arrive in the best of shape to enjoy the event.
